The referral pathway for a placement at the SRP is through Achieving for Children’s (AfC) Special Educational Needs Panel which manages admission to the SRP in consultation with the Head Teacher, Inclusion Lead and Teacher in Charge of the SRP.
'Haring’ is our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) at King Athelstan Primary School and is designed to support six children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) identified as the main presenting need within their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Children who access Haring may also have additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, sensory processing and attachment difficulties. All children accessing the provision are allocated to a mainstream class and supported to integrate as much as possible. Haring offers a nurturing environment to support the SEMH needs of the children and enable them to more successfully access the curriculum and the wider school.
The SRP is named after artist Keith Haring who is known for his vibrant representation of people and animals. Haring loved working with children, admiring their imagination, sense of humour and lack of prejudice. He encouraged young people to get together to collaboratively create their own artwork. We chose Haring to represent the SRP (in line with our whole school model of naming classes after artists) as his simplistic, colourful drawings lend themselves to discussions around emotions and feelings.
Alongside our whole school vision and approach to meeting pupils’ needs we aim to:
The curriculum in the SRP is based on the National Curriculum taught throughout the school and is personalised to meet the individual needs of the children. Children based in the SRP will have the ability to access all or part of the curriculum of the mainstream school, differentiated as appropriate. In addition, there is an emphasis on developing children’s social, emotional and mental health skills and as such there will be access to frequent learning programmes that address these needs.
The aim of the SRP is to support the child to have access to a full and engaging curriculum delivered through quality first teaching. We aim to enable the child to reach their full potential through providing a flexible timetable with increasing opportunities to maximise inclusion into the whole school community.
