Year 3 Science Museum

On Wednesday 25th May, both Year 3 classes travelled to London to visit the Science Museum as a part of their Summer term topic "Do Machines Dream of Electric Sheep" which explores machines, inventions and technology.

At the museum the children had the opportunity to visit the "Discovery Motion Theatre" where they watched a short 3D film "The Legend of Apollo." The animation virtually flew the children to the moon and allowed them to experience the sights and sounds of a real Apollo expedition. Next they joined in on an interactive performance led by one of the Science Museums "explainers" called "Feel the Force." The children joined 'Sir Isaac Newton' and 'Phil the Stunt Frog' as they combined forces on an action packed extravaganza around the world. Seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Ancient Greece and the Highland Games, the children took a closer look at the forces that shape our world.

The Discovery Motion Theatre was amazing. My chair moved with the screen and I felt like I was on a real rocket! -Year 3 pupil

The interactive films were a highlight of the day but they children also had the opportunity to explore the museum and look and handle some of the incredible inventions which are now a part of our daily life, from the telephone to the refrigerator.

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic day out in the capital and learnt a lot about space, inventions and technology that shapes our present world. The children came away buzzing with new knowledge and ideas for inventions that may shape our future! Forget scooting to school, how about a hover-board!?
