Houses of Parliament Trip

School Council - Trip to the Houses of Parliament

On Monday 10th October the school council visited the Houses of Parliament to explore how democracy works. It was the first ever visit undertaken by a group of children from King Athelstan and our school councillors’ behaviour was exemplary throughout. After navigating the tight security, we were taken to the House of Lords and the House of Commons where we were not allowed to sit down because we were neither nobility nor elected members of parliament! The trip allowed our elected body, the school council, to experience what it is like to represent others and make laws and rules that govern the country. We hope that this experience will allow them to continue to run our school in the best interests of all pupils.
