Weekly Homework

  • “Busy Ants” Maths task: To be completed in the Homework Book.

Purpose:  To consolidate and extend their learning in Maths.  It will be related to the area of Maths that the children have been focussing on.  There are three challenges.  Your child should choose the challenge that stretches them.  They are expected to complete one of the challenges, however may do more if they wish. “Busy Ants” is the Maths scheme we use as a basis for our Maths planning.

Monitoring:  This work will be marked on a weekly basis.


  • SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar): To be completed in the Homework Book. 

Purpose: To consolidate and extend their understanding of SPAG.  This homework may take various forms and may include the learning of key spellings and sentence construction work.

Monitoring:  This work will be marked on a weekly basis.


  • IXL: An IXLstickerwill be placed in your child’s Homework Book, on a weekly basis, outlining what skills are being taught within the classroom.

  Purpose: To keep parents/carers informed about what their children are learning in Maths on a weekly basis and help parents/carers direct their children to the appropriate IXL activities.

Monitoring:  There are no expectations about the amount of time your child should spend on IXL.


  • Reading: Your child is expected to read on a daily basis.

Monitoring:  There is a Home Reading card attached to your child’s Reading Log that will be “dotted” every time your child reads at home.  Your child will receive a certificate when they complete their first card and a small stationery prize when they complete their second card. 

 Year 1 homework will remain the same.  They will receive a sticker outlining their IXL focus and a piece of homework related to their weekly learning.

Year 6 homework will remain the same.  One page of Maths work, one page of grammar work and a Science task.


Termly Homework

  • “Thinker's Project” relating to class topic.


Expectation:  Two pieces of “Thinker’s Project” homework per half term.  By the end of Spring Term your child will have completed four pieces of work from the Homework Grid. (This can include a piece of their own choice.)

 Monitoring:   Each piece of work will receive recognition from the class teacher or a senior member of staff.  There will be a record kept of every piece of work brought into school.

 There will be an end of term exhibition, date to be confirmed.

At least one piece of “Thinker’s Project” work from every child will be on show at the exhibition.

Maths Passports: These will no longer be assessed within school.  They are available on the school website as a resource for parents/carers should you wish to work on your child’s age related Mental Maths objectives.

Important dates

Weekly homework across the school will be given out on a Thursday and expected back on the following Tuesday.
