Emily Newton, Headteacher, Alice Govan, Assistant Headteacher, and Denise Ramkissoon, Nurture Lead, are the designated safeguarding leads for the school.
The school has a consistent behaviour policy which runs through the school. It is based on children making good choices and taking responsibility for their actions. Children work hard to earn a "green card" which is awarded by staff to celebrate their achievements and positive contributions to the school community.
In October 2011, Ofsted rated behaviour in the school as "good" and noted in their inspection visit:
Pupils behave well throughout the school and they are enthusiastic learners.
The progress of every child is central to our ethos; one size doesn't fit all. We carefully plan support to meet the needs of all children, including those identified as More Able, Gifted and Talented (MAGT), those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and those with additional needs.
The senior leadership team meets with class teachers each half term to monitor progress and attainment. They discuss the needs of all the children in each class to make sure that every child has differentiated work to meet their needs and that they are both supported and challenged.
Our Assistant Headteacher, Ms Alice Govan, is our inclusion manager:
“Primarily my role is to act as the strategic lead for inclusive practice across the school, working as part of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that inclusion remains central to everything we do. I am responsible for ensuring that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities relating to children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) under the guidance of the Local Authority. I lead our Inclusion Team and work collaboratively with them to coordinate and oversee the provision for children who have SEND, speak English as an Additional Language (EAL), or may be more vulnerable members of our community for a variety of other reasons. We work together to liaise with professionals from outside agencies (such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Social Workers) and parents/carers to ensure a cohesive package of support for children and their families. We also support and advise teachers and teaching assistants in their work with pupils with identified needs.”
