The School Council

The role of a School Council is to represent the voice of the children in our school and to help engage them in the decision making process.

At King Athelstan, our School Council meets regularly to discuss whole school issues and ideas from their own classes. There are two representatives from every class on the School Council and the children are elected to the School Council by their peers. They have badges and are featured on our roles and responsibilities display board in the main thoroughfare so that all children know who they are. The representatives will also feed back to their own classes on the outcomes of the meetings.

In the past school councillors have supported school leaders in:

  • Appointing school meals contract
  • Purchasing playground equipment
  • Deciding on school improvements
  • Supporting their classes to improve attendance and punctuality

They have also visited the Houses of Parliament!
