School Meals

King Athelstan has a large hall where all the children are invited to eat their lunch. Children can bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy a healthy, freshly made hot meal, prepared in our own kitchens by our catering team WilsonJones. We are a no nut and a pork-free school. Please note, other meat options are not halal.

Free School meals – does your child qualify?

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals automatically. For the academic year 2023-24, all children are entitled to a free lunch. Although all school lunches are free (for this year) parents/carers still need to book and select the lunch each day from the menu choice. 

If you are in receipt of benefits, it is worth applying for benefits-related free school meals as your children can access a free club, and may receive meal vouchers during school holidays. For further details, click here.

How to book – do it in advance!

• See below for our current menu.
• School lunches are booked via your ParentPay account.
• Save yourself time! You can book weeks in advance.
• Lunches must be booked by 7.00 am on the morning of the lunch at the very latest.
• If a child has not been booked in for lunch on time, we will call and request that parents provide a packed lunch, so please make sure you have booked in advance.

Special Menus

We also have special menus from time to time. For example, in May 2022 we had a street-party-style lunch to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and every year there is a Chinese-themed menu for Chinese New Year. We also have special lunches for school census days in January and May.

Please note when booking on ParentPay the Week 1 Tuesday Meat Option reads ‘Chicken Pizza with Potato Wedges’. This is incorrect and should read Chicken in BBQ Sauce with Rice.
