King Athelstan has a large hall where all the children are invited to eat their lunch. Children can bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy a healthy, freshly made hot meal, prepared in our own kitchens by our catering team Stir. We are a nut and pork-free school. Please note, a halal* meat meal is available on Thursday, but other meat options are not halal.
Information to follow. Please see the Parent Information Booklet below.

How to book – do it in advance!
We have a halal meat option once a week on Thursday. Halal refers to food that is prepared in accordance with Islamic dietary guidelines. In the UK, halal-certified meat must meet both food safety regulations and halal requirements. Please be reassured that all the halal meat supplied to the school will have been through a process where the animals are stunned. This fully complies with UK animal welfare standards while also meeting halal certification requirements. Our approach is intended to be inclusive of pupils’ different dietary needs and respectful of faith practices, while also upholding animal welfare standards.
All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals automatically. Currently, Year 3 to 6 children also receive free school lunches as part of the London Mayor's initiative. Although all school lunches are currently free, parents/carers still need to book and select the lunch each day from the menu choice.
From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to free school meals, regardless of earnings.
Going forward, there will be two types of eligibility:
