School Meals

King Athelstan has a large hall where all the children are invited to eat their lunch. Children can bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy a healthy, freshly made hot meal, prepared in our own kitchens by our catering team WilsonJones. We are a no nut and a pork-free school. Please note, other meat options are not halal.

Free School meals – does your child qualify?

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals automatically. Currently, Year 3 to 6 children also receive free school lunches (until at least July 2025) as part of the London Mayor's initiative. Although all school lunches are free (for this year) parents/carers still need to book and select the lunch each day from the menu choice. 

Additional funding and benefits

Your child may also qualify for benefits-related Free School Meals. This means: -

• They may receive Free School Meal vouchers in the school holidays (subject to government funding)
• They will have a free extra-curricular club place each term
• Vital additional funding will be given to the school

• School lunches are booked via your ParentPay account.
• Save yourself time! You can book weeks in advance.
• Lunches must be booked by 7am on the morning of the lunch at the very latest.
• If a child has not been booked in for lunch on time, we will call and request that parents provide a packed lunch, so please make sure you have booked in advance.

Special Menus

We also have special menus from time to time. For example,  Sports Day picnic lunch, Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings, World Book Day or Chinese New Year special menu. We may also have themed lunches for school census days every January and May.
