We hold a Silver Healthy Schools Award and are currently working towards our Gold award. We have a fantastic way of celebrating children’s birthdays (as well as singing to them and making them feel special) – without all of the sugary cakes and sweets!
We would like children to donate a book to their class on their birthday, rather than bringing in cakes, as this is a lovely way for the children to enjoy something that will last, and will benefit the class for the rest of the year. When your child brings in a birthday book, we add a book plate at the front with their name and birthday and put on a protective cover before the book goes into their class reading corner. There is no requirement to donate a book - it is purely voluntary.
Polite reminder
We are not able to hand out cakes or sweets or other treats for children’s birthdays, so please do not send them in.
As you may be aware we have invested in our ‘home reading scheme’.
We are really proud of the diverse books we now have in our scheme for children to take home and enjoy. However, we are always trying to find new ways of adding to our class reading corners.
Over the last few years we have had generous donations of books from children in the school and were wondering if others would like to do the same.
Has your child grown out of their old books? Or have they read them all? If so, and they are in good condition, we would be really grateful if you donated them to our class book corners. We welcome both fiction and non-fiction books.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
