Welcome from the Headteacher

I am very lucky to be the Headteacher at this wonderful, welcoming school, supported by a highly skilled and dedicated team of teachers and support staff. We are very proud of the friendly, caring and nurturing ethos of our school where children feel valued and want to learn.

The school is a two-form entry community primary school close to the centre of Kingston upon Thames. We provide education for children from 2 to 11 years in our school and offer a wide range of services and activities for 0 – 5s and their families through Kingston Town Children’s Centre which is based on our site.

Over the years we have developed our setting, which means we now have a vibrant, modern learning environment, with fully equipped intervention areas, spacious subject specialist rooms including: an art/cookery room, music room, library and Specialist Resource Provision space, as well as a state-of-the-art Key Stage 2 playground.

The staff at King Athelstan have high expectations of all the children, and through our inclusive curriculum we teach the children that hard work delivers success.  We empower children with the knowledge and skills they need to leave school as confident, kind and independent young people, instilling core values and the passion to ‘dream big’ and become successful in whatever their eventual career paths will be. We are very proud of the children who attend King Athelstan and all of their achievements, across all areas of school life and beyond.

Throughout their time at King Athelstan, we ensure children have learning opportunities both inside the classroom, within the school grounds and beyond. The wide range of curriculum and enrichment activities allows children to explore new opportunities or further their interests or talents, such as: music, dance, sport and art, which are integral parts of school life.

We feel passionately that children learn the importance of leading healthy lifestyles and understand the impact that this can have on their mental well-being. We celebrate diversity and teach our children that equality, tolerance and respect are crucial foundations for their education, their future and for the wider community.

We are committed to all aspects of education and development, encouraging families to work in partnership with us to realise our aim, of successfully helping each child to leave our school as great.

We hope our website tells you a bit about our fantastic learning community and the sorts of things that we do at our school. If you are considering King Athelstan for your child in September 2022, we are currently offering virtual school tours to prospective parents and carers online. Please contact the school office at: admin@kingathelstan.rbksch.org to book a place on a tour.
