If your child is unwell and/or going to absent

Please contact us by 08:50 if your child is unwell and going to be absent from school. A message can be left on the school absence line 020 8546 8210 or an email sent to admin@kingathelstan.rbksch.org and should include your child’s full name, class and reason for absence.

  • If your child has been vomiting or had diarrhoea keep them home from school for 48 hours after their symptoms have gone.
  • If your child has a high temperature, keep them home from school until it goes away.

For further information please see the NHS Guidance for different illnesses and when to keep your child home from school.

If your child has a medical appointment

Every effort should be made to arrange medical appointments outside school hours to minimise the impact on your child’s education. If a medical appointment falls within the school day your child will be expected to attend school before and after the appointment.

Absence for a medical appointment can be authorised if evidence of the appointment is emailed to admin@kingathelstan.rbksch.org or is brought to the school office before the date of the appointment so that we can inform teachers of the arrangements. We will need to take a photocopy of your appointment card or letter. Evidence should be:

  • From the medical professional - i.e. GP, Dentist, Hospital etc.
  • The original or a clear copy/photograph of an appointment card, letter, email, text confirming the details of the appointment. It should include the child’s full name, appointment date, time, and location.

If you think your child may be entitled to Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals. If you are in receipt of benefits, your older children may be entitled, too.  For further details, and to complete the application form, click here.

It is worth checking if you qualify for benefits-related Free School Meals for all children (even in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2) as you may receive Free School Meal vouchers in the school holidays or qualify for a free club. King Athelstan will receive additional funding as well.

If you need to request "Exceptional Leave"

Please complete an Exceptional Leave request form here. This request is reviewed by the Headteacher. Absences are only authorised if the request is an emergency. Requests for holiday leave will not be authorised.

If you would like to volunteer in school/for a school trip

Thank you, we love having volunteers. Please complete the Volunteer Readers form here, or the form to volunteer to accompany school trips here. All volunteers will need to complete a DBS check in advance.

If you would like to discuss a problem or a concern

Please contact your child’s class teacher first. They will make the Headteacher and/or the Senior Leadership Team aware of the situation. If you do not feel that this has resolved the situation please arrange to meet with the Headteacher. A copy of our school Complaints Policy is available from the school office.

If you would like to come to Class Assembly

All parents/carers are invited to attend their child's class assembly. These are on Wednesdays at 9am in the hall. The dates are listed in the Class Assemblies page.

If you would like to help to make our school even better

Please share any ideas or suggestions with your child’s class teacher, the office or the Headteacher. Also, please come along to our termly Parent/Carer forum. You can add items to the agenda and join in with discussions.

If you would like to support your child further at home

Please read with your child every night and help them to learn to read and spell their phase words. Please support your child to complete their homework each week. Please speak to your child’s class teacher for more ideas or look on the PCSA website.

If you would like to be involved in the PCSA

As a parent/carer you are already a member of the PCSA. If you would like to attend their regular meetings or help out with events please look out for the purple letters in your child’s book bag.

You can read more about the PCSA by clicking here, visiting their website (http://pcsa.kingathelstan.co.uk/), or alternatively emailing the PCSA: kingathelstanpcsa@gmail.com

If you have changed any of your contact details

It is important that your contact information is kept up-to-date. Please let the office know as soon as possible if any of your details change such as your phone number, address, email details or doctor’s details.

If you would like a paper copy of something from the website

Please contact the school office on 020 8546 8210 or email admin@kingathelstan.rbksch.org with your request and we will arrange it for you.
