French

If you were to walk into a French lesson at King Athelstan, you would see children engaging in a range of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities.  The children would be confident in telling you about their learning and where it is taking them.  They would be confident in “having a go” and not afraid to make mistakes or not pronounce words perfectly the first time. You will also see children learning French whilst linking with their class topics and making cross-curricular links with art, drama, geography, history and even science! We value the importance of specialist teaching, therefore our choice of MFL is suited to the expertise of our school staff.

We are lucky enough to have a specialist French teacher who teachers all of Key Stage 2 so children will get excellent, first hand experiences of hearing and speaking high quality French. The sessions are taught using a range of engaging and stimulating practical activities which ensures the National Curriculum requirements are covered; that skills taught are progressive and MFL sessions are delivered with confidence.
