Violet's Share a Story Day

From Violet in Dali Class, Year 5:

My friends and I have organised a fundraiser called “Share a Story Day”. My idea originated from the fact that Ukraine and Russia have been at war for over a year now and it’s time King Athelstan does something to help the children. I thought we could do a book swap/sale as we all really like reading/books.

On Thursday 20th of April please could children bring in to school as many books as they wish to donate to the book exchange/sale, with parents’/carers’ permission. The books that they bring should be in good condition. Ideally it should be books they really love but are comfortable to give away. The Y5 volunteers will set them up in the hall. To make things easier, these books will be categorized by age that will range from 2-11 (Nursery and up.) At given time slots in the day, the children in each class will get 10 minutes to look at and choose a book, and every child can take one book to keep for free! This celebrates the love of reading and books within our community.

After school, we will put the remaining books out at pick up time for children and parents/carers to ‘buy’ for a donation. CASH ONLY PLEASE! You can also donate for the ‘free’ book if you like. All donations go to the Voices of Children charity. Here are some words from their website:

With your help, we provide psychological and psychosocial support to children who suffered as a result of war operations.

We also help families to cope with everyday difficulties, treatment and rehabilitation of children.

To give children a voice we create video content, and we are also engaged in promoting children’s rights in order to change the children’s rights protection system in the country.

Our goal is to create conditions when every child will be heard and children’s rights will be protected.

Share a Story Day is a vital step towards supporting Ukraine and our new families who have recently joined us. We are so happy to have them here and want them to be supported and part of our community. This charity’s goal is to achieve all this and more so we would be incredibly grateful if you could take part in this event!
