Reading and Writing Workshops for Parents and Carers

We run parent/carer workshops where we share how we teach English and advise on techniques/ activities you can use at home to help your child progress in their reading and writing. There are separate workshops for Reception, Key Stage 1 (Y1-Y2) and Key Stage 2 (Y3-Y6).

Questions we cover:

Reading

  • How can I support with reading at home?
  • What do the book colour bands mean?
  • What is phonics and how can I support with learning new sounds (for EYFS and KS1)?
  • What should my child be able to do by the end of their Year?
  • How is reading taught at school?

Writing

  • How can I support with handwriting at home?
  • What are fine motor skills and how can I support with developing my child’s pencil grip?
  • What should my child be able to do by the end of their Year?
  • How is writing taught at school?
  • How can reading support my child’s writing?

Attached below are the presentations given at each workshop. Please contact your child's class teacher if you have any queries.
