Nursery (Klee)

Our Nursery class is called Klee (pronounced 'Klay'), after artist Paul Klee, and is part of our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

“A line is a dot that went for a walk.” Paul Klee

In Nursery the children will all receive a home visit before starting. This is a great opportunity to see your child in their own environment and it allows the parents/carer and the teacher time to develop a fantastic partnership.

The children in our Nursery have a staggered start in September to ensure a smooth transition into their new learning journey. As we know, the first few weeks of your child attending our Nursery are crucial important and we pride ourselves in creating a happy, safe environment for your child to grow and develop.

Once the children have settled in, we start to have short carpet sessions alongside a play based curriculum. At the start of the year, we aim to embed the prime areas of learning which are Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social, Emotional Development. This is reflected in the activities set up both inside and outside the classroom.

In Nursery, the children have snack time as a whole class at the start of the year. This is lovely opportunity where we can all come together to share stories and experiences. As the year goes on and children start to become more independent, we move to independent snack time. This allows children to take ownership, build independence and self-awareness.

We are very lucky to have 26 spaces for 3-4 year olds and 4 spaces for 2 year olds in each of our sessions (see below). Our two year old provision is called Little Klee.

Little Klee have their own provision embedded in our classroom; children in Little Klee have their own sessions where they focus heavily on Communication and Language, as well as Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. This is developed through stories, songs and sounds and nursery rhymes. After your child starts in Little Klee, our 2YO lead completes an integrated review with the parent/carer. This is to identify your child’s progress, strengths and needs at this age in order to promote positive outcomes in health and wellbeing, learning and behaviour.

This year, we are developing our exciting new curriculum to work around fun and engaging texts, which mirrors the whole school literacy approach. Our new curriculum will still include play-based learning led by the children’s interests and it will include some extra, key skills such as cooking, woodwork and gardening.

Children over the age of 3 are eligible for the 15 Free hours of Nursery Education Grant – for the September intake children must be 3 on or before 31st August  and for the January intake 3 on or before 31st December (subject to availability).  We do not currently offer 30 hours funding. Applications for nursery places are normally due in the March of each year. We run two 3 hour sessions:

  • PM – 12.30 – 3.30pm (26 children per session)

Our nursery team are highly experienced and deliver a high quality provision where children flourish.
